History
With the 2005 Prairie Home, the team’s focus was to create an energy efficient home that would appeal to everyone. Their goal was to avoid the metallic, “solar house” look – make the house look like a home. One way the team accomplished this was with implementing the northern roof/southern roof angles. In fact, everything in the home was designed around a mathematical sequence known as the Golden Ratio, or the Fibonacci Sequence. This sequence can be found in most shapes and patterns in nature, from pinecones to seashells. One example of this is with the kitchen island, which has a curved appearance. Their biggest influence during this project was Frank Lloyd Wright’s homes.
The home has a standing-seam copper roof made of structural insulated panels. It also incorporates a solar thermal/electric panel system. The team determined this approach would collect more power than separate systems.
